Prayer is not just what you do when you come to church but what you do all the time. Prayer is primarily communion with the Father. The place of prayer is the place where you have fellowship with Him and His secrets are made known.

Daniel 2:22 He reveals the deep and secret things: He knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwell with Him. 23 I thank You, and praise You, O God of my fathers, who has given me wisdom and might, and has made known unto me now what we desired of You: for You have now made known unto us the king's matter.

Daniel and his friends would have been killed except that they prayed and secrets of the matter was revealed to them. The purpose of prayer is primarily to fellowship with Him, then that we may also have access to what others may never have.

Hebrews 6:9 We have this certain hope like a strong, unbreakable anchor holding our souls to God himself. Our anchor of hope is fastened to the mercy seat which sits in the heavenly realm beyond the sacred threshold, 20 and where Jesus, our forerunner, has gone in before us. He is now and forever our royal Priest like Melchizedek.

You access in prayer is based on Jesus' presence behind the veil. Not everybody have this access except those who are born again. Are you born again? If not, you don't  have access, but it can be granted now. Accept Him as your Lord and Saviour.
