Esther 3:4 Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai's matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew.

The enemy is beyond what we naturally see, the humans are not the real enemy. Your enemy is invisible, they are spiritual beings suggesting things into the mind of men. Though, there are men who cooperate with them to carry out their earthly agenda, be assured that we have victory already through Christ Jesus. 

Mordecai and Haman were not originally in conflict, though he has hatred for Jews, he wasn't noticing Mordecai at all. He was not even aware that he wasn't bowing to him. Jesus said something great, "the prince of this world came to me, but found nothing of his in me". This implied that, because Haman had unsettled scores, the words of those men triggered his evil heart to action. 

Esther 3:5 And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.

When people backbite about someone to you, beware of what the enemy is throwing at you. Stand strong and don't bow because of the threat of the evil one. Stay focused on God and see Him fight your battle and the enemy consumes by their own fire.
