Deuteronomy 8:4 Your garments did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years. 5 You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the Lord your God chastens you.

Your wilderness is a place of experience with God, it's also where temptation has to be overcome. It's also a place of heart reset and correction. This is the place where those who know their God get stronger like Joshua and Caleb.  In the wilderness, you may not have your desired food, but you will not be hungry. 

Deuteronomy 8:3 So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.

The Israelites ate manna, instead of being happy, they murmured. Meanwhile, God was trying to let them know, that food for belly all will be wiped out, but His word will abide forever. Wilderness is a place where you learn to depend on God and His word. But many people get offended in Him and depart from the faith. 

Hebrews 3:12 Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; 13 but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

What the enemy will always try to do is to lure you into unbelief and then sin. He tried the same with Jesus, but He overcame through the use of the word. Though hungry, He didn't allow His appetite influence His decision and words. We see Him return in the power of the Spirit and His fame spread.
