Ephesians 5:17 Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

It is very important to know the will of the Lord for your life. Many people live without understanding, their decisions in life is based on their emotions. You are not supposed to judge things based on what you hear and see alone. You must be spiritual and view life from that standpoint. 

Being spiritual is not about how gentle you walk around or talk. It is your ability to judge things and view life through the knowledge of God's word. For example, how do you know who to marry? Some people only look at the outward qualities, not the personalities of the persons. Meanwhile, the scripture is full of the personalities of the person you should marry. 

Genesis 13:10 And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere (before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar.

You must be schools in scriptures and be well grounded in it. Don't be a casual believer or observer, be intentional about your walk with God. You can not understand the will of God or fulfill the same without the knowledge of God's word. You must grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus. That way, you will not judge things after your hearing or sight.
