Hebrews 3:8 This is why the Holy Spirit says, “If only you would listen to His voice this day! 8 Don’t make Him angry by hardening your hearts, like your ancestors did during the days of their rebellion, when they were tested in the wilderness.

The wilderness is a place of never enough nobody like it. In the wilderness, you don't even know what and when the next movement will come. However, if you can keep following the pillar of fire and the cloud, the journey is easy with victory. You don't have new cloth but the old is not worn out. 

It's a place of pruning, where the Lord deal with every impurity in us. The wilderness is a place where people circle mountains for years especially when they refused to learn and change. The wilderness took the children of Israel forty years because of their rebellious lifestyle. However, Jesus showed us that you can cross the hurdles in just forty days. 

That's the place where some people turn away from the Lord to idol worshiping, some get into frivolous living, others challenge the leadership as they did to Aron and Moses. In all of this, those who know their God are strong, they are the ones who do great exploit. The wilderness is not a place of punishment but pruning and empowerment.
