Luke 22:45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow, 46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. 

Jesus demonstrated the secret to overcoming temptation at the last hour towards the fulfilment of God's plan for His coming to the world. He was tempted when He came out of Jordan after His baptism in the wilderness, He defeated Satan through God's word.

When He was in the wilderness, He offered prayers with fasting, He spoke and He got victory, but this time at the Garden just before the cross, the devil came again with temptation. Jesus then began to pray for a change of plan, but added, let your will be done oh Father.

He went with His disciples to stand with Him and for themselves in prayers, but they were sleeping. Luke 22:40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. 

He asked them to pray so that they wont enter temptation, in order words, prayer safeguard us from being overtaken by temptation. If you don't pray you may do things you never believe you could do in your lifetime. So pray always and stand on His grace.
