Colossians 3:5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience.

The word translated as mortified here is the Greek word "nekroo"  that has it meaning as "subdue, deaden". This is saying that you should deprived the desire of this members of your body the power to function. When the scripture says you can handle it, then it is possible reality.

Romans 6:11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.

You must let your body know that it's dead to sin through Christ sacrifice. You must be saying it to your body, make it clear before the desire comes and after. Infact, say it again and again after you've even done something silly. Don't allow sin reign in your body, don't obey it in it's lust. The passion translation put Romans 6:11-12 this way:

Sin is a dethroned monarch; so you must no longer give it an opportunity to rule over your life, controlling how you live and compelling you to obey its desires and cravings. 13 So then, refuse to answer its call to surrender your body as a tool for wickedness. Instead, passionately answer God’s call to keep yielding your body to him as one who has now experienced resurrection life! You live now for his pleasure, ready to be used for his noble purpose.

You see, sin was a king reigning before, but now we reign and rule over it's power now through Christ in us. You have the power, refuse the thoughts when it comes by making a bold declaration of God's word that speaks to your new passion.
