Colossians 3:5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience.

Sin is no longer believers problem, God has dealt with it through the cross of Christ Jesus. The power of sin has been destroyed already, everyone who is born of God has power to walk in victory over sin. Even though not all believers are living victoriously over sin, the power of sin has been put to death.

I Corinthians 15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

The strength of sin is actually the law, or you can say that what give power to sin is the law. But Christ through His sacrifice has met the demand of the law and we are now free. This is the beginning of liberation, what you need to do now is to acknowledge what Christ has done on your behalf.

Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

I love the way passion translation put it: "Remember this: sin will not conquer you, for God already has! You are not governed by law but governed by the reign of the grace of God". So always remember this, you have been delivered from the reign of sin through Christ Jesus. Now you can live above sin because of the new life within you.
